Abstract

[Class 64(i)] [Also in Group XVII] Steam is supplied to a retort 1 through inlet pipes 17, 18, delivering to opposite surfaces of the material and fed from a common supply pipe 19. One-way valves 22, 24, release valves 23, 25, and a pressure gauge are provided. The retort has a cover 2 clamped to it by screws 7 and is provided with a perforated false bottom 11 and a removable basket. The liquids, which collect below the false bottom and below the lower steam inlet are drained off at outlets 4, 5.
