925,484. Digesters. J. M. FLOUNDERS. March 23, 1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No. 39617/60. Class 64 (1). A chemical digester comprises a feed inlet for a first, heating chamber, pipes for passing material from the first chamber to a second chamber containing perforated disintegration trays, waste gas outlets from both chambers and either pipes for passing material back from the second chamber to the first, with an extract pipe from the second, or pipes for passing the material on from the second chamber to another similar digester. As shown, the first chamber 1 is formed in the annular space between steel cylinders 3, 4 and contains a hot-water coil 8. The inner cylinder forms the second chamber 2 which has three steel disintegration trays 11, and a conical sump 13 leading to an outlet 10. Material fed in at 6 passes into the second chamber at 9, and on leaving the outlet may either be returned to the first chamber by pump 16, or discharged through valve 20.
