Abstract

553,243. Heating water. BRICKNELL, E. C. Nov. 11, 1941, No. 14536. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] Water admitted through a valve-controlled port 24 flows through the annular space between two concentric cylinders 3, 4 to an outlet pipe 15 while steam admitted through a valve-controlled port 23 flows through the inner cylinder 3 and through the annular space between the cylinder 4 and an outer cylinder 5. The cylinders are surrounded by non-conducting covering enclosed by a casing 6. The water and steam valves 22, 21 are operated in unison by cams on a spindle 27. The two inner cylinders 3, 4 are secured at the bottom to a closure casting 31 which slides in the bottom plate 2 of the outer cylinder 5. The water outlet pipe 15 and the condensate outlet pipe 20 pass through stuffing boxes in the bottom plate. The steam or water supply may be thermostatically controlled.
