860,652. Contacting a gas with a liquid. BAHCO A.B. Aug. 14, 1958 (Aug. 14, 1957], No. 26166/58. Class 55 (2). Apparatus for contacting a gas with a liquid comprises a vessel I within which are suspended tubes 4 dipping into liquid contained in the vessel, gas inlet tubes 14 leading from a gas inlet chamber 15 and ending above the level of the liquid, deflector plates 17 fitted round the tubes 14 and over the upper ends of the tubes 4 and a gas outlet 19, the length of the annular passage between tubes 4 and 14 being greater than the diameter of the tubes 4. When the apparatus is used for washing a gas, liquid is fed into the vessel 1 by a pipe 10 and withdrawn together with any sludge through pipes 8 and 9 but when the apparatus is used for concentrating a liquid such as waste sulphite liquor by contact with a hot gas the dilute liquor is fed into the apparatus through pipes 8 and 9 and concentrated liquor is withdrawn through pipe 10.
