Abstract

922,257. Contacting liquids with gases. INGENIORSFIRMAN FLIESBERG A.B. April 5, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 12263/61. Class 55 (2). In a process for contacting a liquid with a gas the gas is contained in the free space above a body of the liquid in a vessel 1 and liquid is continuously introduced into the vessel through an inlet 5 and projected in the form of a conical veil on to the surface of the liquid therein, the level of liquid in the vessel being maintained constant by withdrawal of liquid at a position adjacent the bottom of the vessel. The liquid entering the vessel is passed over the surface of a conical baffle 7 and gas may be introduced into the vessel as necessary through a pipe (not shown) or together with the entering liquid. Any excess liquid in the vessel may be withdrawn through a pipe 3, the position of which can be adjusted to maintain a desired level in the vessel, e.g. just below or level with the lower edge of the baffle 7. The apparatus may be used to treat water with air.
