Abstract

1428943 Dispersing gases in liquids F L WALTER 16 Aug 1974 36187/74 Heading B1C A method of dispersing a gas as fine bubbles in a liquid comprises mixing the gas (e.g. pure oxygen) with a condensible vapour (e.g. steam) and injecting the mixture into the liquid. The gas and vapour may be mixed in a simple conduit (see Fig. 1, not shown). In the apparatus shown steam is conducted through a converging nozzle 50 to a low pressure chamber 52 where it aspirates waste water from the conduit 39, or the mixture discharges through a diverging nozzle 53 into a high pressure chamber 43 and thence through a nozzle 56 into a waste water tank. Oxygen is added to the steam through conduit 34, to the waste water through conduit 35, and/or to the mixture in the high pressure chamber through conduit 36; and steam may be further added to the oxygen through conduits 40 and/or 47; a mixture of 90% steam and 10% oxygen is advantageous. Alternatively the condensible gas may be a fluorocarbon.
