Abstract

An apparatus for the combined detoxication of two or more waste liquors containing either soluble cyanides, soluble chromates, acids or alkalies comprises a detoxicating vessel for each waste liquor to be treated, which vessels are so assembled in juxtaposition or one within the other that each vessel has at least one common wall with at least one other vessel, each of which vessels is divided by a partition into a reaction and measuring zone and a final reaction zone, which zones are connected by overflow pipes, and each vessel is provided at the point of transition between zones with a measuring electrode and also provided with means to agitate waste liquor within the container, an inlet and outlet for waste liquor and an inlet for the supply of the detoxicating agent. Agitation may be by means of compressed air using a blower with branch pipes, and the whole apparatus may be covered with a hood through which the air can be ducted. The containers may be rectangular, or they may be circular and nested concentrically one within the other. Specifications 895,741 and 895,742 are referred to.
