Abstract

Active carbon suspended in the washing liquids is subjected while stirring to a preliminary washing in water and an acid treatment in the presence of an ion exchanger. The iron exchanger, e.g. a sulphonated polystyrene resin in H form, may be arranged in a liquid pervious container of acid-resistant fabric which is immersed in water adjusted to a pH of, e.g. 4-6 by HNO3, and which may be constructed as a stirrer, e.g. by rigidly connecting a rectangular framework to a rotatable tube arranged vertically in the acid treatment vessel. In an example, the active carbon was washed twice with distilled water before the acid treatment.
