Abstract

764,218. Hand-irons. MAXWELL ETABLISSEMENT. Jan. 18, 1955, No. 1553/55. Class 138 (2). A detachable steam generating base fitting for a smoothing iron comprises a base plate 4, a liquid container 6 connected thereto, and means for securing the fitting to the iron, and is characterized in that a liquid conduit 8 with means 9 for regulating the throughflow extends from the container 6 into a longitudinal compartment 10 formed in the base plate and provided with baffles 11 which compel the throughflow to take a tortuous path through the compartment, the compartment being closed on the side facing the iron by a detachable heat-conducting lid 14 and having at its end part remote from the conduit 8 escape holes 13 from the compartment to the ironing surface. The baffles 11 comprise ribs provided with openings. 15 adjacent the lid 14. The iron (not shown) is electrically heated and the base fitting 4 is secured to it by means of a tapered end portion 17 and a securing member 7. Alternatively or in addition the fastening can be effected by a spring 18 passed through the handle opening of the iron and secured to screws 19 arranged at each side of the base fitting 4.
