739,779. Electric water heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 19, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 14724/54. Class 39 (3). An electric heater 11 for a water tank 1 comprises two sheathed elements 14, 15 lying in the same plane with one leg of each element in mutual contact, the elements being a snug fit within a tube 13, the walls of which are thin and flexible so that they are forced into intimate heat transfer relationship with the heating elements by the pressure of the surrounding water. The tube is closed at one end by a cap 18 and its outer open end is sealed in an opening formed in the tank wall. To remove a heating element, the water pressure in the tank is relieved by closing a valve in the water inlet 6 and opening a tap in the outlet line 5, the frictional force between the element and the tube walls thus being reduced. A heater 12 is similar to the heater 11 except that only one element 22 is shown. Thermostats 9, 10 are provided. Specification 375,122 is referred to.
