Abstract

940,376. Electric flow heaters. C. H. GERDES. Nov. 10, 1959 [Oct. 14, 1959], No. 38051/59. Heading H5H. An electric flow heater for connection to a liquid supply pipe, and having a doublefitting to permit the supply of hot, cold, or a preselected mixture of hot and cold, liquid, has a base-plate mounted on the doublefitting, which plate is provided on one of its sides with passages for the liquid which are covered by a cover-plate which is secured to the baseplate, and which supports the heating means and both pressure sensitive and temperature sensitive means for controlling the heating current. Tube 11, Fig. 2, is connectable to supply pipe 15 by threaded member 14, passes through an aperture in the base-plate 1 and coverplate 2, and forms a housing for the sleeve 10 of double fitting 17, knob 18 of which adjusts the hot/cold liquid mixture, and handle 19, the shut-off valve regulating the total flow from outlet 21. The cover-plate 2 covers the liquid flow passages 32, 33, 34 formed in the base-plate; has a recess 28 divided by a pressure-sensitive diaphragm 27 to the two sides of which the liquid has access via channels 32a and 34a respectively ; supports a switch 23 actuated both by the diaphragm 27 and by a bimetal strip 29; and further supports the heater 3 which has a wire coil 7 accommodated in the passages 5. Removal of the members 18 and 19 permits the removal or exchange of the heater 3 without the necessity for shutting off the cold water supply, and removal of the cover-plate 2 permits the liquid channels to be de-scaled. Signal lamps 36, 37 are provided in the circuit. Specifications 918,922 and 920,939 are referred to.
