Abstract

939,355. Electric water heaters. RADIATION Ltd., and C. D. MIDDLETON. March 14, 1962 [March 15, 1961], No. 9551/61. Class 39 (3). A heater for providing either hot water or a smaller quantity of boiling water includes a thermostatically controlled electric heater for heating the water to a temperature. below boiling-point, a cold water inlet in the lower part of the water container; in the upper part of the container a free outlet, a closable outlet, and an immersion heater for heating the water at the top to a higher desired temperature; and a thermally-actuated switch for switching the power supply from the immersion heater to the other heater when the desired higher temperature is attained that water heated by immersion heater 5 provided with thermostat 6 may be displaced from container 1 through weir tube 4 and outlet 13 by introducing cold water at the inlet 2. Boiling water is obtained by actuating press-button 16, whereby switch 14 disconnects heater 5 and connects immersion heater 10 until, at steam temperature, bimetal strip 15 causes switch 14 to revert to its previous setting. The boiling water is drawn off by use of valve 12, the optional disc 7 with upstanding wall 8 and cap 9 reducing dilution of the boiling with the hot water. Heater 5 may be replaced by an external heater clamped to the wall of the container.
