Abstract

1280806 Hydraulic reciprocating drive PUMP SPECIALTIES Inc 4 Nov 1970 [ 4 Nov 1969] 52507/70 Heading F1A An hydraulically operated reciprocating drive for a well pump comprises a pump actuating member 32 lifted from the bottom stroke position to a mid-stroke position by cylinders 28 constantly pressurized from an accumulator 36 and from the mid-stroke position to the top stroke position by liquid supplied from a pump 58 to the lower ends of cylinders 40. At the top stroke position a stop 86 on a rod 84 is lifted by a part movable with the member 32. This changes over a pilot valve 70 and consequently a main control valve 54, thereby directing the output from pump 58 to the upper ends of cylinders 40 while connecting the lower ends to a tank 62. Initially the member 32 descends by gravity, forcing liquid in the cylinders 28 back into the accumulator 36. At mid-stroke the accumulator pressure prevents further descent under gravity and pressure builds up in the cylinders 40 to complete the downward stroke. Adjustable throttles 82, 91 in the exhaust lines 60, 82 control the stroke speed and valve changeover speed.
