Abstract
1416772 Controls for glass pressing plungers CORNING GLASS WORKS 26 July 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 35661/73 Heading C1M A control system for the rapid acceleration of a pressure-fluid actuated ram R for pressing glass AR into a mould FM from a condition of rest, as shown, to overcome negative pressure or vacuum, the ram including a pressurized fluid cylinder CY, piston P, piston-rod PR and plunger CHFM, the system including a pressure fluid intensifier PF1 with low pressure input IP and high pressure output OP; a single-direction fluid flow check valve CV1; a two-direction controlled check valve CV2; a two-position fluid flow control valve PFV2 connected to a source of pressurized fluid through an actuator PV3; a three-position fluid flow control valve PFV1, both ends of which are connectable to a source of pressurized fluid through actuators PV1, PV2 ; a source of further pressure fluid, 500 p.s.i. connected to valve CV1 and connectable through valve PFV1 to valve CV2 and the input IP of intensifier PF1, a source of further fluid pressure, 250-1000 p.s.i., connectable to cylinder CY to press the plunger CHFM downwardly, the remaining pressure fluids being connectable to blow piston P in cylinder CY to give initial acceleration to and to lift the plunger CHFM. The intensifier PF1 comprises a cylinder CY1 with a large piston P1a sliding in a large bore section B1a and a small coaxial piston P1b sliding in a small bore section B1b, piston P1b being surrounded by a return spring SP.
