Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A hydraulic press for making artificial stone comprises a ram 1 and a pump 4 for supplying fluid to reciprocate the ram, the output of the pump being controlled by a signal from an amplifier 8 responsive to the difference between the desired and actual positions of the ram. The circuit between the pump 4 and the ram 1 includes backpressure valves 4<SP>1</SP> and safety valves 2<SP>1</SP>, 31 to give the ram equal speeds in its two directions of movement. A second pump 16 supplies a cylinder 6 through a valve 12 to adjust or reverse the output from the pump 4 in accordance with signals applied to a servo-drive 11 from the amplifier 8. Feedback signals from the ram 1 and the cylinder 6 are fed to the amplifier 8 from potentiometers 7, 10 for comparison with a signal corresponding to the desired ram position which is applied at 9 and obtained from a programmed circuit.
