Abstract

1,246,331. Hydraulic presses. PACIFIC PRESS & SHEAR CORP. 1 Nov., 1968 [10 April, 1968], No. 51959/68. Heading B5F. [Also in Division B3] An hydraulic press, e.g. a press brake is provided with means for determining the end of the work stroke of a press ram 1, and timing means responsive to the arrival of the press ram 1 at the end of its work stroke for determining the extent of the return stroke of the ram. Means are also provided for adjustably dividing the work stroke into a fast initial portion and a slow final portion. The timing means and dividing means include adjustable rheostats (197, 199), Fig. 3 (not shown), these rheostats being adjustable simultaneously or independent of each other. As shown in Fig. 1, the ram 1 is reciprocated by two hydraulic motors 3, 5 supplied by pumps 11, 13. For the fast approach stroke fluid from the underside of the pistons 9 supplements the supply from the pumps 11, 13 to the upper parts of the cylinders 7. At a point in the work stroke determined by a timer (169) solenoid windings 89 are de-energized and cause valve assemblies 85 to open and connect lines 19 to a tank. Rapid advance of the ram 1 is thus converted to normal speed since liquid from the undersides of the pistons 9 is no longer supplied to the motors 3, 5.
