870,779. Hydraulic presses. MASCHINENFABRIK SACK G.m.b.H. Sept. 2, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 29953/59. Class 69 (2). A control system for an hydraulic press comprises control means 4 on the ram 3 of the press connected by a shaft 14, 19 to cam means 6, 7 which actuate elements 8, 9 controlling the flow of pressure medium to the press cylinder 1, and a differential gear 15 ... 18, 20 ... 22 which is interposed between the control means and the cam means and is operable to displace the cam means relative to the control means to alter the position of the stroke of the ram relative to the cylinder. The control means consists of a rack 4 engaging a pinion 5 on the shaft 14 which is connected by the differential gear 15 ... 18, 20 ... 22 to the shaft 19 secured to the cam 7. A second differential gear 23 ... 28 connects the shaft 19 to the other cam 6. Reciprocation of the ram oscillates the cams 6, 7 which engage abutments on a rod 8 connected to the valve 9 controlling the fluid supply to the cylinder 1. Movement of a lever 30 associated with the gear 15 ... 18, 20 ... 22 moves both cams 6, 7 relative to the gear 5 so that the stroke of the ram is altered relative to the cylinder 1, and movement of a lever 31 associated with the gear 23 ... 28 moves cam 6 relative to cam 7 to alter the length of stroke of the ram. The levers can be operated when the press is operative or at rest. In other embodiments, the cams may actuate electrical apparatus which energize magnets or motors controlling the hydraulic supply.
