Abstract
1280252 Making pipe fittings AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 27 Jan 1970 [29 Jan 1969] 3816/70 Headings B3A and B3Q Apparatus for the hydraulic bulging of a pipe 1, e.g. to form a T-joint, corrugated pipe or a bicycle lug, comprises a split die 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, a pair of piston rods 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, means for preventing break of the seal between the rods 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and the pipe 1 when the bulging pressure is increased, and means for regulating pressure in the pipe to prevent rupture. The rods 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are moved by levers 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which are controlled, through an hydraulic actuator 19, 20, by a symmetrical cam if the ends of the pipe 1 are equal, or by an asymetrical cam if the ends are unequal. Guides 13<SP>1</SP> for an end of the cam include pressure sensors 30 set to stop the press upon registering a predetermined unbalance pressure. A pump 26 fills the pipe, air escaping through a valve 28. The pressure in the pipe is increased by a pump 21, acting through an intensifier 22, and that on the end of rods 4, 4<SP>1</SP> by a pump 31 acting against a variable relief valve 38, Fig. 4, which is controlled by the pressure of pump 21. This is effected by a lever 37 one side of which is engaged at a predetermined point, depending on pipe-size, by a cylinder 32 connected to the pump 21, and the other side by a buffer cylinder 39 bearing on the relief valve. Pressure applied by the pump 21 is regulated by a valve 33 controlled by a cam 42. The die-section 2 is operated by a piston 3, and finished work is ejected by a piston 34.
