Abstract
1,207,785. Forging hammers. VYZKUMNY USTAV TVARECICH STROJU A TECHNOLOGIE TVARENI. 28 Feb., 1969 [18 March, 1968], No. 10890/69. Heading B3H. A counterblow hammer comprises a ram 2 urged towards an anvil 1 by pressurized gas in the cylinder 4 of a piston-cylinder assembly and raised by pressurized fluid and the anvil is mounted on piston-cylinder assemblies 5, 6 connected by a conduit 7 to the cylinder 4 through a control valve 8 and a return valve 9. The pressurized gas in the cylinder 4 may be supplied from a pressure vessel (not shown), or produced by trapping gas in the cylinder as the piston 3 is raised. The pressurized fluid is oil drawn from a reservoir 14 by a pump 12. In operation the pump supplies oil to the cylinder 4 to raise the ram 2 to a certain height whereupon an impulse opens a by-pass valve 17 to return the oil from the pump to the reservoir. The valve 8 is controlled manually or electromagnetically and opened to allow the ram 2 to descend and the anvil to rise. After impact the anvil descends and oil is displaced from the cylinder 6 to the cylinder 4 through the return valve 11 to partially raise the ram.
