Abstract
763,163. Shearing. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Dec. 17, 1954 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 36599/54. Class 83 (4). An hydraulically-actuated machine for shearing ingots, in which the upper and lower blade-holders are movable in vertical guides and effect the cut by hydraulic means, the upper blade-holder being clampable in a predetermined position, is characterized in that when the upper bladeholder is clamped in its uppermost position, the lower blade-holder can be raised clear of the roller track or the like on which it has been supported. As shown, the lower blade-holder 1 is raised by a predetermined amount a to lift the ingot 15 from its roller tracks 16 into the position 15a. Fig. 2, by means of an hydraulic cylinder 14 co-operating with a fixed plunger 13. The lower blade-holder 1 is suspended from two tension rods 2, the upper ends of which are attached to a cross-bar 3 to which is secured an hydraulic cylinder 4 in which is movable a plunger 5 connected to the upper blade-holder 6. The blade-holder 6 has secured thereto plungers 8 movable in fixed cylinders 9. When liquid under pressure is admitted to the cylinder 4 the blade-holder 6 is caused to move towards the blade-holder 1 to effect the cut. The upward movement of the blade-holder 6 and the downward movement of the cross-bar 3 are limited by distance pieces 11. The machine is so controlled that the cutting movement is blocked so long as the lower blade-holder is not raised. An adjustable throttle valve may be interposed in the discharge pipe from the cylinder 14 to cushion the descent of the lower blade-holder.
