Abstract

1,232,331. Sheet forming. LEBOCEY INDUSTRIE. 28 Aug., 1969 [25 Nov., 1968], No. 42903/69. Heading B5A. A sheet forming press comprises an upper fixed platen 3, carrying a chamber element 1 and attached by columns 4 to a fixed base 18, and a lower reciprocable platen 5, upon which is mounted by means of compression spring 7, a chamber element 6. The lower platen is reciprocated along columns 4 by main jack 13 and auxiliary jack 15 and carries adjustable rods 9 adapted to engage counter pressure jacks 11, 12 mounted upon platen 3. Located with chamber element 1 is a forming or preforming plunger 2 and located with chamber element 6 is a mould 8 provided with a sharp bevelled edge 8<SP>1</SP>. In operation, the lower platen is raised by the main jack until rods 9 engage rods 11 of counter pressure jacks 12 to which hydraulic fluid has been supplied. In the position the element 6 engages the element 1 to clamp the sheet to be formed at a pressure determined by the degree of compression of springs 7, which compression is dependent in turn upon the adjustment of rods 9. The plug 2 is then lowered to prestretch the sheet, the sheet then being transferred by suction or blowing to the mould 8. Finally fluid is released from the counter pressure jacks and the auxiliary jack is actuated to lift the mould 8 a small amount relative to the element 6 thereby severing the formed article from the excess sheet material. The platen 3 is then lowered, the formed article removed and the process repeated.
