Abstract

1,141,114. Moulding press. PRAMET ZAVODY PRASKOVE METALURGIE NARODNI PODNIK. 30 March, 1967 [8 April, 1966], No. 14420/67. Heading B5A. A press for compacting granular materials into articles includes an upper ram 33 and a die mounting platform rigid with a lower ram 18, each being movable from a relative datum position to form the article, means being provided to adjust the said datum positions, even during relative movement of the ram and platform, to vary the distance between the datum positions. The article is formed in an annular die 21 secured to the platform, the granular material being fed thereto from a container 30 and compressed by a centrally apertured punch 35 carried by the upper ram. A stationary former 45 is attached to the press frame and extends into the die to form a base therefor, and a rod 25 secured to the lower ram extends into the former and passes into a central bore of the punch 35 and provides a central bore in the article. A cross-member 10 of the press is connected to the upper ram 33 by guide rods 42 slidably mounted with respect to the press frame, and is vertically reciprocated by a lever 7 mounted on an adjustable pivot 8 and driven by a roller 6 on a crank secured to a crankshaft 5 driven by a motor 1. The roller engages a slot 7a in the lever whose opposite end has a roller and slot connection with the cross-member 10. By raising or lowering the pivot 8 by an arm 9 the datum position of the upper ram is adjusted. The lower ram is vertically reciprocated by a lever 11 mounted on an adjustable pivot 38 and having rigid branch portions with cam followers 15a, 11a, 12a spaced around the crankshaft axis so that as the roller 6 is rotated it contacts the cam follower in turn. The datum position of the lower ram is adjusted by varying the heights of the adjustable pivots 38 and 16 by arms 39 and 17 respectively. Downward movement of the lower ram is controlled by an adjustable stop 19 with which a member depending from the ram comes into contact. An adjustable braking mechanism 40 acts on the depending member. The die filling assembly includes the container 30 which supplies a hopper 31. The assembly is mounted on a rod 26 which is axially rotated by a linkage operated by relative movement between the rams, so that the hopper is brought over the die to discharge the granular material and is then swung away before the compression stroke. After the latter the assembly is swung back and pushes the formed article, which is lying above the die on the former 45 laterally away from the die.
