Abstract

1,039,606. Moulding blocks; toggle operated press. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. April 3, 1963 [April 12, 1962], No. 13255/63. Headings B5A and B5F. Concrete blocks &c. are compression moulded in a mould 17, by first compressing the material by an upper ram 6 and then further compressing it by a lower ram 4. The upper cross-head 5, carrying ram 6, slides vertically on guide columns 2, which are rigidly attached to the lower ram carrying cross-head 3 and which are vertically reciprocable with respect to press frame 1. Arms 13 of the toggle mechanism 12, 13 operated by lever 10 are pivoted to the cross-head 5 and arms 12 are pivoted to the columns 2, so that upon initial downward movement of the piston and cylinder mechanism 7, 8, 9, the cross-head 5 and ram 6 are moved down until the cross-head abuts stops 18, adjustably mounted upon frame 1. Upon further downward movement of the piston and cylinder mechanism the toggle mechanism is straightened which raises arms 11, columns 2, and ram 4, thus further compressing the material in the mould 17. The upward movement of the lower ram is limited by the abutment of plate 20 with screw-piece 19, mounted on the cross-head 5. The lower ram is adjustable by means of tapered discs 21 and may be raised to eject the moulded article by means of piston- and-cylinder mechanism 22.
