Abstract
716,271. Presses for moulding concrete blocks. SMITH, W. H. Dec. 14, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 7537/53. Divided out of 716,238. Class 87 (2) The ejecting ram of a press for concrete blocks &c. is raised by means including a toggle 48, 49 and a cam 62. The cam 62 engages a cam plate 60 on a lever 59 which is connected to the toggle 48, 49 by connecting rods 51, 58. The ejecting ram is guided for vertical movement in the press frame by rollers 26a and is connected to the toggle by a lever 45. Connecting rod 51 is pivoted to an arm 52 fixed on a shaft 53 on which is also fixed a plate 54 having a step 55 in its edge. The connecting rod 58' carries a link 56 which is pivoted at one end to the plate 54 and bears at the other end against the step 55. During the first part of the ejection stroke, the rod 58 pulls against the step 55 but as the rod comes into alignment with the link 56 the force is transmitted through the link. The cam surface 60 is shaped to give any desired movement to the ram. The press is charged and vibrated in the manner described in Specification 716,338. The compression mechanism is described in Specification 716,270. Specification 417,846 also is referred to.
