Abstract

719,452. Mechanical presses MAY, O. Aug. 24, 1949 [Aug. 24, 1948; Jan. 26, 1949], Nos. 22069/49 and 22070/49. Class 87 (2) The ram 7 of a press is operated through a link 45 by means of a toggle linkage 19, 37, the link 37 being in the form of a bell-crank lever. The toggle is operated by a connecting rod 23 driven by a crank 27. The pin joint 51 of the toggle is mounted in a vertically movable slide 53. The position of the pin 9 of the linkage may be adjusted by a wheel 17. In a modification, Fig. 4, the joint 21 is replaced by two joints 101, 102. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the toggle linkage is extended with the pin joint 9 below the pin 21. In this latter press the greatest force is obtained at the initial part of the stroke instead of towards the end of the stroke as with the other presses.
