Class 87(2) In a lever-operated press the lever C pivoted on shaft C<3> is connected to the top of a vertically movable shaft A<1>, carrying a plunger A, by a link c pivoted on shaft c<1> carried by shaft A<1> and on shaft c<2> carried by lever C. The arrangement is such that when the lever has pulled the plunger A to its lowest position the three pivotal centres c<1>, c<2>, c<3> are vertically aligned, as in the dotted-line position of Fig. 1, so that maximum pressure occurs at this point. In order that the length of the stroke may be varied the distance between pivot points c<2>, c<3> or between points c<1>, c<2> may be varied, the pivot point c<1> or the point c<2> being carried by an eccentric or slide. To further adjust the position of the die A at the bottom of its stroke the shaft c', on which the lever C is pivoted, is carried in a bar D (Fig. 4) which is pivoted on a shaft d and has a slot d<1> in which an eccentrically mounted pin e, on a lever E turning about a point e<1>, engages; so that, as the lever E is turned, the bar D pivots about the shaft d thus raising or lowering shaft c<3>. To fix the bar D in any position the lever E has a pin e<2> at its other end which engages holes f in a quadrant F. The link c has an extension c<5> which abuts a stop b<1> on the frame of the machine when the plunger is at its lowest position. Either the stop b<1> or extension c<5> may be adjustable to compensate for wear.
