Abstract

611,755. Ironing-presses. HOWLETT, E. J. May 6, 1946, No. 13722. Addition to 583,516. [Class 138(ii)] The press described in the parent Specification is modified by incorporating in the linkage for moving the head 5 into operative position, a link 11 which is guided for movement substantially in the line of pressure, and is arranged so that its pivotal connection 12 with the lever arm 7 carrying the head 5 is disposed at a lower position than its pivotal connection with the power link 14, 15. The upper end of the link 11 is pivoted at 8 to a block 9, which is guided for vertical movement in a slot 10, and at its lower end is pivoted to the lever arm 7 at the pivot 12 between the link 11 and the main power lever 13 for applying pressure between the head 5 and buck 4. The power link 14, 15 for swinging the arm 7 is connected at its lower end to the arm 7, preferably to an extension 17 thereof, and at its upper end is pivoted either on the upper end of the link 11 or on the block 9; in the preferred form, the upper pivot of the power link 14, 15 is the pivot 8 between the link 11 and block 9. The link 11 is provided with an adjustable return spring 18.
