Abstract
651,532. Presses. HUSSEY, H. C. April 1, 1948, No. 9227. [Class 140] A dry-mounting press comprises a base 3 carrying a base block 1 and, pivoted to the base at 6 and 13, an arm 5, on which a platen 2 is adjustably mounted, and an operating bar 12, pivotally connected by a link 15 to the arm 5. The pivots 6, 13, 14, 16 are so disposed that, when the press is in its normal position, i.e. the block horizontal and the platen 2 resting evenly on it, the pivot 13 is below the level of pivot 6 and the horizontal distance h of pivot 6 from a vertical line drawn through pivot 13 is equal to the distance between pivots 14 and 16, and also the distance between pivots 13 and 14 is equal to the sum of the distance h and the vertical distance v of the pivot 13 from the horizontal line drawn through pivot 6 ; the distance h may be three times the distance v. In an embodiment, the platen 2 contains a thermostatically controlled electric heater and the operating bar may be temporarily retained in the "open" position by means of a notched catch-bar 20 co-operating, with a pin 22 as shown.
