Abstract
1395406 Ironing presser MEFINA SA 15 Dec 1972 [24 Feb 1972] 58124/72 Heading D1A In an ironing press comprising a buck 2 on a frame 1 and an arm 3 pivotable about the frame 1 by a hand lever 5 which is pivoted to the arm at 6, the pressing head is mounted on the arm 3 by a universal joint 15 associated with two resilient stabilising members 16 (Fig. 3), and cam 11 and spring 10 or other means acting on an extension 7 of the arm to selectively urge the press to an open or a closed position. The head mounting comprises two shafts 27, mounted in aligned bores 28 in bosses 29 of the heating plate of the head 4 and hinged to shafts 23 which are slidable in bores of the arm 3 and urged upwardly by springs 24, and a cardan joint or ball-and-socket joint 15. The axis of the bores 28 is parallel to the pivot axis of the arm 3 on the frame 2 and is offset to the rear of the longitudinal axis of the head 2 to stretch a garment as the press is closed and direct any steam produced to the rear. The head 4 is adjustable relative to the arm 3 by screwing the member 20 with the socket 19 at its end in a threaded boss of the arm 3. A space is provided between the cover 31 of the pressing head 4 and the heating plate to permit air to pass over the heating plate and out of an upper aperture of the cover 31 to cool it. An insulating layer may also be provided between the heating plate and cover. The lever 5 and arm 3 are urged to the press open or closed position by a pair of rollers 9 engaging parallel fixed cam tracks 11 on the frame 2 and mounted on a slider 8 which is urged by a spring 10 away from the pivot 6 of the lever 5. Resilient stops 12 and 13 for the lever 5 are also provided.
