Abstract
705,269. Ironing ; stands for hand-Irons. PARNALL (YATE), Ltd. Nov. 30, 1951 [Dec. 12, 1950], No. 30369/50. Class 138 (2) An ironing machine is provided with an electrically heated pressure member and with means for releasably attaching a flat-iron 7 in heat transferring relationship to the pressure member. In the example shown, the pressure member comprises a concave plate 1 adapted to co-operate with a rotatable roller (not shown) but the invention may be applied to pressing ironers of the non-rotatable type. A casing 6 on the member 1 has an opening 5 to receive the iron 7 which is held in contact with the flat face of a block 4 by means of inturned fingers 8 and stops 9. The pressure member 1 and the iron are heated by means of an element 2 embedded in insulation 3 and clamped in place by the block 4. In an alternative construction (not shown) the iron is shaped to correspond with the cross-section of the pressure member and its casing, which in this case may be saddle shaped, the flat-iron constituting a detachable end closure plate of the pressure member, and being retained in position by means of pins which register with corresponding holes in the sole of the flat-iron. A separate heating element for the iron may be provided in the pressure member. In a modification (not shown), the iron is heated by a radiant heating element instead of by conduction. According to the Provisional Specification, the flat iron may be pressed into contact with the block 4 by means of a leaf spring.
