[Class 39 (iii] In an electric ironing-machine of the type comprising a rotating roller supported at one end by a housing and with an electrically heated shoe pressed in contact with it, a number of heating elements are provided in the shoe and one of these elements, which is arranged to heat that part of the shoe which engages the free end of the roller, can be operated independently of the others. For example the free end of the shoe 2 is heated by an element 5 which is independently controlled by a switch 7. The element 4 heating the remainder of the shoe may be switched on when the whole shoe is to be heated by switch 6. In an alternative construction all the elements are put into operation by one switch while the element 5 can be switched on independently by a separate switch.
