452,476. Staking and softening machines. AYLES, W. F., The House, Leggatt Works, Watford, Hertfordshire. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3205. [Class 76] A machine for heating and staking or softening leather in one operation comprises a heated iron such as 4 and a staking or perching tool 7 mounted adjacent thereto, these appliances being shown as supported by the wooden jaws A, B of a known type of machine such as is described in Specifications 11580/89 and 1061 /97, [both in Class 76]. The tool 7 is adjustably mounted on a casting 2 on which are also mounted a support in the form of a flat brush 13 and a spreader 31 The iron 4 is carried by a casting 1 on which are also mounted rolls 26, 27 which co-operate with the tools 7, 31. A slicker 25, Fig. 3, may also be mounted adjacent to the tool 7 and a second staking blade may be substituted for the spreader 3. The iron 4, roller 26 and slicker 25 are heated, conveniently by gas or by electric current which is conveyed by sliding contacts and bus-bars and the circuit may be arranged so that the temperature of the iron may be varied. A thermostatic control may also be provided.
