Abstract

[Also in Division F2] Spring mechanisms, for controlling or operating an up-and-over door 10 and which can be adjusted to suit various loads, each comprise a pair of tension springs 11, 12 and a two-armed lever 13, 13<SP>1</SP> mounted on a pivot pin 9 fixed in a bracket 14 secured to a door frame 8 the longer arm 13 of the lever being connected to the door 10 and the shorter arm 13<SP>1</SP> being connected to the springs 11, 12 by means of a pin 16 whose distance from the pivot pin 9 can be varied. The pin 16 passes through holes in a stirrup 17, which embraces the outer end of the arm 13<SP>1</SP> and through a longitudinal slot 15,. Fig. 2 (not shown), in the arm 13<SP>1</SP>, the position of the stirrup 17 and therefore the pin 16 being adjustable by a screw 23 and nut 24. The pin 16 has a nut 18 and washer 19 on one end a spring tension adjustment bolt 21 being retained by a slotted nut 22 and a split pin on the other end. The bolt 21 carries a block 25 which connects the upper ends of the springs 11, 12 and which is adjustable along the bolt 21 by means of a nut 26. The opposite ends of the springs 11, 12 are connected to a coupling plate 27 pivoted on a bolt 28 carried by an anchor bracket 29. A graduated scale, arranged to co-operate with the stirrup to indicate the spring loading, is provided on the lever arm 13<SP>1</SP>.
