Abstract
1,226,982. Constant-tension pipe support. PIPE SUPPORTS Ltd. 30 May, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 26378/68. Heading F2S. In a constant tension lever-type pipe support, the spring 15 acts on the lever 31 through one or more links 38, 39, the position(s) of which relative to the lever may be adjusted to alter the spring lever arm for different loads. The lever 31 is pivoted to a bracket 11 at the fulcrum 32 of the system. The load (i.e. the pipe) is connected to the lever 31 by an eye-bolt 51, and tends to rotate it in an anticlockwise direction. The spring 15 is mounted on the bracket 11 by a pivoted block 20, and acts on the lever 31 through a draw-bar 25. One end of the draw-bar 25 is fastened to the spring retaining plate 16 and the other end is pivotally connected by a chain link 39 to the link 38. Thus the spring tends to rotate the lever clockwise. Adjustment of the spring lever arm (i.e. the perpendicular distance from the line of application of the spring to the pivot 32) is effected by a screw 43 acting on the link 38, and thus adjusting the line of application of the spring force in the range (66, 67). The load lever arm can also be varied, by moving a pin 54 in a slot 60. In the support of Fig. 2 (not shown) the spring (72) is arranged to act in a generally vertical direction, and there is only one link (87) interconnecting the draw bar (79) and the lever (83). Adjustment of the spring lever arm is effected by a pin (91) having a flange (94) which co-operates with an indicator scale (95).
