Abstract
1367455 Spring support; eg for pipes PIPE SUPPORTS Ltd 18 Oct 1971 [17 Oct 1970] 49393/70 Heading F2S In a constant-force spring and lever support device, e.g. for pipes, the lever, comprising a pair of bellcrank plates 15, is fulcrummed on a pin 16 on a frame 10. The lever carries means 23 for the attachment of a load thereto at one end and at the other end is pivotally engaged with spring-mounting means 30. A compression spring 12 extends between the mounting means 30 and further mounting means 29 by which the spring is pivotally engaged with the frame 10. As shown, an extension 13 of the frame 10 carries a pin 37 which bears on a surface of an arcuate member 35 mounted on the spring mount 29 by depending lugs (34) (Fig. 2, not shown). The lower spring mount 30 carries a pivot pin 40 attached to a lug 38 which is received in a bearing block 39. The block 39 is slidable along guides (48) (Fig. 2, not shown) mounted on each of the opposed inner surfaces of the bellcrank levers 15, the block being adjustably attached to the levers by a bolt 43 carrying a nut between travel-limiting stop plates 46, 47. The spring load-factor is set by means of the bolt 43 and is indicated on a scale 52. The arm 18 of the lever on the load side of the fulcrum carries a screw 23 and turnbuckle 24 on a pin 22 and a pivoted channel member 25 in which a scale 26 may slide. A stop 27 on the frame 10 limits the extent of pivotal motion of the lever 15 about the fulcrum pin 16. Vertical movement of a load attached to the turnbuckle 24 pivots the lever and ajusts the degree of compression of the spring 12 as preset by the position of the block 39 relative to the lever so that the load is supported by a constant force. A locking pin may be inserted through aligned holes 21 in a third arm of the lever plates and a hole 57 in the frame 10, e.g. during cleaning or testing of a pipe. In an alternative embodiment, the adjusting block 39 and bolt 43 may be omitted or disposed on the load arm side of the fulcrum 16 so that the distance between the pin 22 and fulcrum 16 can be varied.
