Abstract

902,261. Constant force spring units. GRINNELL CORPORATION. Feb. 29, 1960 [March 9, 1959], No. 6987/60. Class 108(3). In a constant force spring unit for supporting pipe lines in which the load applied at the arm 20, Fig. 1, of a bell crank 18 is balanced by a compression coil spring 42 coupled to the arm 22 of the bell crank, the fixed pivotal support 30 for the spring is arranged between the ends of the spring within the spring coil to reduce the overall length. The bell crank 18 is pivoted at 16 between the sides of an inverted channel frame 12 to which a cylindrical spring housing 24 is rigidly attached by a disc shaped bracket 26 having an integral projection 28 in which the pivotal support 30 is mounted. The spring end plate 34 pivoted to the support 30 and the bracket 26 are apertured for a pair of parallel tension links 36 coupled at 39 to the other spring end plate 28 and at 38 to the bell crank arm 22. The links are slotted at 40 for sliding and pivotal movement over the pivot 30.
