836,627. Springs. AITON & CO. Ltd., CHAMBERLAIN, J., HILL, G. A. H., and HARTLEY, J. April 10, 1958 [April 10, 1957], No. 11687/57. Class 108(3) In a constant force spring support device, the load is supported on a tube 7 pivoted to arms 1, 2, at 6. Arms 1, 2 are pivoted to a frame 3 at 4, 5. Helical springs 8, 9 provide the load supporting force. A compensating spring 10 comes into operation when tube 7 has descended far enough, under the appliad load, for a shoulder 13 to abut the top of the spring 10. The spring 10 may be housed inside the tube 10. In this case the top of the spring 10 is held against a fixed plug in the upper end of the tube 7 by a pair of pins which abut the lower end of the spring and slide in longitudinal slots in the tube. At a predetermined point in the downward travel of the tube 7 the pins abut fixed stops on the frame 3, thus compressing the compensating spring as the tube 7 continues its downward movement.
