Abstract

1383503 Compression moulding apparatus RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 17 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 3507/71 Heading B5A A fibrous slurry is pressure moulded in a cavity 46 by a plate 40 vertically reciprocated by rams 17 pivoted at 16, and with their ram-rods 18 each pivotally connected to a pair of toggle links 23, 26. The links 23 are pivoted to a stationary platform, and the links 26 to a member 28 which, when the rods 18 are moved inwardly, is raised to force the plate 40 upwardly. Before such pressing, the top of the mould cavity is closed by a cross-head 60 connected by two sets of linkages 77 to a fixed beam 53; a double acting ram 90 brings the linkages to an over-centre position to effect mould closure. The linkages are locked in this position by ram-rods, not shown, passed through corresponding bores in fixed brackets 83 and links 71. Vertical movement of the cross-head 60 is assisted by rams 110. The slurry feed mechanism includes a valve controlled outlet in an inclined feed duct 120 below which is reciprocally supported a feed trough which is extended during the feed stage and retracted during pressing. After the pressing operation, the cross-head is raised and cylinders 34 raise the plate 40 so that the moulded article is raised above the mould cavity and finally removed by a wheeled pusher 105 on the end of a horizontal ram-rod.
