[Class 87 (ii)] A brick &c. moulding machine comprises a cylinder 3 having one or more peripheral moulds, and cam or eccentric operated pressing and ejecting pistons 5. The cam or eccentric may be adjustable. As shown, the eccentric is a stud 7 adjustably mounted on a fixed axle 29. The cylinder is rotated intermittently on journals 4 by a pawl 10, Fig. 5, which engages a ratchet 9 on the cylinder. The pawl 10 pivotally mounted on an arm 12 rotatably mounted on a journal 4. In operation, the cylinder is rotated clockwise through 90 degrees by a connecting-rod 13, to bring an empty mould into position 1. This rotation causes a plunger 21, mounted on the arm 12, to ram the material in the nozzle part 23 of a hopper 22. A piston 24, withdrawn during this operation, is then moved forward to cram the pressed material into the mould. The connecting-rod 13 which has by this time returned to its original position shown in Fig. 5, moves forward again to rotate the cylinder through 90 degrees. At the same time a connecting-rod 17 moves forward to cause a pivoted plate 20 to swing up and close the bottom of the mould, while the piston 5<SP>1</SP> presses the material in the mould. At the end of the quarter-revolution, the plate 20 starts to return to its original position, Fig. 5. The moulded. material is then ejected by the piston 5 during the next quarter-revolution. There may be several filling points for the moulds, and each point may be fed either by a separate hopper or by a common hopper. The machine may be fitted with means for cleaning the pistons 5 and 24 and the plate 20. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the arm 21 may be operated by a cam or eccentric. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
