Abstract
777,638. Rotary presses for making clay articles &c. CREMER, G. April 5, 1955 [April 15, 1954; Aug. 18, 1954], No. 9931/55. Class 87(2). Ceramic material is pressed to form e.g. tiles between dies 23, mounted on a turret which is intermittently rotated about a shaft 18 by a Geneva mechanism 19, and a die 22 which is pivoted at 24 and is raised and lowered by a toggle mechanism 26, 27 driven by a crank 31 and a connecting rod 30. The fact that the die 22 is pivotally mounted causes the material to be pressed progressively from one end to the other end of the dies, thus allowing air to escape during the pressing. The bearings 28, 29 of the toggle mechanism may be eccentrically adjustable ; and the connecting rod 30 may be adjustable in length to allow the toggle levers to be moved past the dead-centre position so that a double pressing of the material is obtained for each rotation of the crank. A bolt 33 on the pivoted die engages a slide 34 on the machine frame and a projection 35 on the bolt engages the turret, to keep the dies rigid during pressing.
