1,168,556. Casting-machines. J. E. M. CARLSEN. [16 March, 1967], No. 12420/67. Heading B3F. Low-pressure die casting apparatus is mounted, on vertically adjustable pivots by way of its table 10, above a melting furnace 1 having an upfeed duct-portion 3c (supported by a plate 5a movable on the furnace top 5) for passing molten metal by gas pressure into a fixed half-die 7 through a duct-portion 3a secured, e.g. by screws, to the half-die 7 and seating unfixedly in a collar 3b of the ductportion 3c when the casting apparatus (2) is swung down into operating position on the furnace top 5. To afford access to the furnace 1, by swinging up the apparatus (2), an hydraulic ram (29), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), on a structure (28) secured to the furnace (1), forces down an arm (38) extending from the table 10 on the opposite side of the pivots (25, 26) which are vertically adjustable by means of screws (125, 126). The casting apparatus (2) includes an hydraulic ram (18) supported on vertical columns (15) on which its plunger (19) operates a platen (116) bearing the moving half-die 16. The fixed half-die 7 is spaced by bars 109 from its platen 9 (which is fixed to the swingable table 10) to facilitate heat dispersion from the die.
