Abstract
1,171,229. Casting apparatus. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 21 April, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 18494/67. Heading B3F. In casting apparatus for bottom pressure casting from a ladle 26 contained in a sealed tank 12 to a mould 10 through an ingate assembly 18, the mould is movable on a carriage 56 to and from the pouring location and carries with it its own ingate cut-off device which is operated by a retractable power means at the pouring location. The cut-off device comprises a slide 42 and an extension 62 that is guided between rollers 58, the slide 42 having a ceramic lined opening 44 complementary to a ceramic lined opening 36 in the ingate assembly 18 and being slidable in a slot 40. The retractable power means comprises an hydraulic cylinder 90 and plunger 96 mounted on the end of an arm 86 that is pivoted between a vertical position for operating the cut-off device and a horizontal retracted position in an inset 78 in the foundation of the casting apparatus. When the power means is in its operating position a shoulder 98 on the cylinder 90 locates behind a stop 72 on the mould carriage 56 to support the reaction of the force of the cylinder 90 when the plunger 96 moves the extension 62 and slide 42 to close the ingate assembly 18.
