Abstract
1,028,736. Casting processes; moulds. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. March 8, 1965 [March 6, 1964], No. 9731/65. Heading B3F. Metal such as aluminium is forced, by gas pressure, up a riser pipe 2 from a ladle 1 into a mould 4 and when this is filled it is shut off from the pipe and subjected to further pressure applied, e.g. by a piston 11 or fluid pressure, through a feeder head 3 provided between the pipe 2 and mould 4. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a slide valve 10 for shut off is mounted in the feeder head but in Fig. 2 (not shown), a single member 12 acts first as a valve and then as a piston as its movement is continued. The filled mould and feeder head are removed and another mould and head are positioned above the riser pipe 2 for filling. There is a chill plate 13 at the top of the mould and an electric heater 9 in the feeder head. The ladle 1 is contained in a casing 5 with a heater 14.
