Abstract
1316852 Casting-machines REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 3 July 1970 [6 Aug 1969] 32370/70 Heading B3F A die casting machine comprises a fluid-tight enclosure 8 having a crucible 2 therein, a mould 6 made up of a plurality of parts and mounted on either the upper or lower plate of a press, a pouring tube 4, a pouring duct 5 and means for increasing the gas pressure within the enclosure 8, the mould and enclosure being movable relative to each other. The frame carrying the mould and press may be pivotal about a horizontal axis (10) so that the parting line of the mould parts may make any angle of between 0 and 90 degrees with the vertical. Alternatively, Fig. 3, the upper plate 14 of the press may be inclined by pivoting about axes 16 or 16<SP>1</SP> using piston and cylinder units 17 or 17<SP>1</SP> to permit easy inspection of the mould impressions. The upper plate may be mounted on the press uprights 7<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, by a set of four straps 19 supporting rings 20 which are displaceable along the uprights. The straps are pivotable about an axis 21 and can move along the rings 20 due to the provision of a gap 22. The pouring duct 5, Fig. 6, is of cast iron and is heated by burners (33) located in a recess in the mould which receives the duct. Its cross-section decreases in the direction away from the enclosure 8 and it may have a plurality of ducts leading from it to one or more mould cavities. A pipe 5c permits the introduction of an inert gas. The pressure in the enclosure 8 is adjusted in response to signals sent out by electrodes (30) and (31) located at the top and bottom respectively of the mould cavity. The electrode (31) causes a reduction in said pressure, when contacted by the molten metal, where the electrode (30) causes an increase in said pressure in order to supply metal to the pipe developing during solidification.
