Abstract
1345982 Pressure casting apparatus; clamping moulds; ingot moulds KARL SCHMIDT GmbH 19 Jan 1972 [22 Jan 1971] 2567/72 Heading B3F A low (gas) pressure ingot casting apparatus comprises a melt holding furnace 1 with a sealing cover 17 having an ingot mould base 22 clamped to the cover 17. Pressure gas is supplied to the furnace 1 and a riser pipe (not shown) is provided in the cover 17 for conveying melt from the furnace 1 to the ingot mould base 22. Two vertical flat-sectioned bars 2 mounted at the back of the furnace 1 support a bridging structure 3 above the cover 17. For raising and lowering the bridging structure 3 clamping bolts 4 are provided and, so as to prevent inadvertent movement of the bridging structure 3 while the bolts 4 are loosened, spring-biased clamping plates (5, Fig. 4, not shown) are mounted on the bridging structure 3. A central cut-out 7 in the bridging structure 3 slidably supports a member 10 which carries an upper core holding plate 16 for an ingot mould by means of columns 9. The core holding plate 16 may be raised by a fluid motor 11 and the sliding member 10 moved backwards and forwards by a further fluid motor (8, not shown). Clamping moulds ingot moulds.-The ingot mould base 22; (Fig. 8) is clamped to the furnace cover 17 by a slotted bar 25 having a screw pin 26 passing therethrough and a threaded U- shaped member 27 which engages a lip of the cover 17. The ingot mould employed (Fig. 9) has adjustable side member 35 operated by fluid motors 28 by means of columns 34. The fluid motors 28 are clamped to a frame 28 by pins (29, not shown) engaging bores in both the frame 32 and in lugs 30 mounted on the fluid motors. The same pin clamping arrangement is employed for joining the columns 34 to the mould side members 35. Additionally the mould includes a core (not shown) mounted on a core holding plate 16. The core holding plate 16 is engaged with its lifting mechanism 9-15 by a T-slot and tenon joint.
