Abstract
920,086. Moulding-machines. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. March 1, 1960 [April 9, 1959], No. 7230/60. Class 83 (1). A blow and squeeze moulding machine comprises a vertically reciprocable mould table, a squeeze head mounted above the table so as to be capable of fitting with the flask, means for blowing sand in the flask, drive means for elevating and lowering the table, and control means for stopping elevation of the table when a predetermined squeeze pressure has been reached. The table 52 is vertically reciprocabl by an hydraulic piston rod 53 and carries the pattern 60 and a vibrator 61. A flask 72 is moved into the machine on rollers 70, and on upward movement of the table is carried into contact with a fill frame 73, spring-urged downwardly on guide rods 76. The fill frame surrounds the blow-squeeze head which comprises a sand reservoir 12 with an inner perforated sleeve 13, and outlet with divergent nozzles 25, and an annular diaphragm 22 backed by a fluid under pressure. The reservoir is filled from a hopper 32 having its outlet controlled by a piston actuated slide 38, which during the blow seals the top of the reservoir 12 by means of an interposed inflatable sealing ring 46. The hydraulic system for raising and lowering the table 52 includes two pumps, one of large volume, low pressure, the other small volume, high pressure, the arrangement being such that the table rises rapidly to the sand filling position and after filling is moved slowly at increased pressure against the squeeze head. The downward movement of the table is initially slow, and then more rapid. Specification 920,086 is referred to.
