Abstract

1359768 Vibratory moulding SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 28 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 19913/72 Heading B5A Apparatus for producing test specimens of green artificial carbon comprises a circumferential mould wall 13 rigidly connected to the machine frame 10, a vertically movable bottom plate 15 resting on springs 23 and vibratable by two oppositely rotating eccentric motors 21, 22 a top plate 25 urged downwardly by oil cylinder 28 one end of which is connected to supply to apply downward force to the top plate through a non-return valve 31 opening toward the cylinder in parallel with a needle valve 32. As shown, frame 10 is mounted on foundation 12 on springs 11. The bottom closure plate 15 is screwed to piston-rod 16 of cylinder 18 and may seat on collar 19 on base-plate 20 which carries the motors 21, 22. Non-return valve 31 may be hydraulically released by control conduit 34. With plate 15 held against collar 19, plate 25 is raised by oil from pump 33 through conduit 30 and the mould filled with granular carbon 36. Valve 31 is reset and plate 25 pressed down by oil through conduit 29 until equilibrium between the oil pressure and springs 23 is reached. Motors 21, 22 are then set in motion, the plate 25 following the vibration of plate 15 according to valve 32.
