Abstract
1368839 Vibrators MASCHINENFABRIK BUCKAU R. WOLF AG 2 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 36161/72 Heading F2X A mechanical vibrator for use with, for example, vibrating plate or cylinder compactors or shaker-type rollers comprises two roller-type eccentric masses relatively adjustable on a circular path concentric with a driving shaft by means of which the masses are rotated. The eccentric masses are, in the embodiment illustrated, formed as cylinders 7, 8 housed in an annular duct 6 provided by a cylindrical housing 5 with end plates 3, 4 fixed to a cylindrical boss 2 of the driving shaft 1. Cylinder 7 is locked fast in the duet 6 by means of a threaded pin (at 9a) while cylinder 8 is freely movable over a path of about 180 degrees between the locked cylinder 7 and a threaded pin 9. On rotating the vibrator anticlockwise, the pin 9 strikes against the cylinder 8 which is thereby positioned opposite the cylinder 7 and the vibrator is balanced. The means for producing an unbalance comprises a supply bore 12 and a return bore 13 provided in the shaft 1 and boss 2, the supply bore 12 being connected to a pump which takes oil from a storage tank, the return bore 13 also being connected to the storage tank. If now a stream of oil is pumped through the bore 12 into the annular duct 6, the cylinder 8 is moved from the pin 9 towards the cylinder 7, maximum unbalance occurring when the cylinder 8 bears against the cylinder 7. By regulation of the oil flow, it is possible to adjust the position of the cylinder 8. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the annular duct is divided by two partitions offset by 180 degrees to form two duct halves in each of which is disposed a cylinder. The supply and return bores each span into transverse bores extending through the partitions. In the balanced condition, the cylinders are each in contact with one of the partitions and thus spaced by 180 degrees but on supplying oil under pressure to the supply bore one of the cylinders is displaced towards the other thus creating an unbalance.
