Abstract
1297470 Hydraulic or pneumatic reciprocating machines NEW-INVENT S A 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 25571/71 Headings F1A F1M and F1N A variable or fixed displacement hydraulic or pneumatic machine comprises a plurality of telescoping tubular piston and cylinder assemblies 10, 12, each assembly being mounted between, and urged into engagement with, spherical bodies 18, 20 mounted on inclined plates 40, 44 rotatable in unison. The plate 44 is keyed to a driveshaft 46 and is provided with a ring of passages 28 each leading into one of the cylinders through passages 26 in the associated body 20. During operation each passage 28 registers in turn with an inlet 56 or an outlet 56<SP>1</SP>. Drive is transmitted between the plates 40, 44 through pins 23 integral with the bodies 20 and extending into the pistons 12 thereby to reduce the dead space. A pair of plates 72, 82 urged apart by a spring 84 engages the pistons and cylinders, respectively, to maintain the assemblies in contact with the bodies 18, 20. The plates 40, 44 are provided with pressure balancing recesses. To enable the displacement to be adjusted, the plate 40 may be rotatably mounted on a member having an arcuate cylindrical surface slidably adjustable on a complementary surface by manual or fluid operated means, Fig.3 (not shown).
