Abstract

1418968 Fluid operated actuators H J SHAFER 12 Oct 1973 [19 Oct 1972] 47847/73 Heading F1D A fluid actuator for operating a valve comprises two parallel cylinders 10a, 10b, a pair of pistons 30, 31 in each cylinder, a rotary output shaft 14 extending transversely between the cylinders, a torque arm 12 angularly movable by the pistons to turn the shaft and extending through facing cylinder openings 11a, 11a' and 11b, 11b' into the cylinders, and four rectangularly arranged plates 17, 18, 17, 18, Fig.6, welded to the cylinders around the openings to form, with the cylinder spaces between the pistons, a sealed housing. Each pair of pistons is connected by a bar 32 having a longitudinal slot 53 therein. A roller 56 is transversely mounted in each slot 53 and is slidably received in a respective radial slot 58 in the torque arm 12, whereby the simultaneous pressurization of the outer end of one cylinder and the outer opposite end of the other cylinder produces a balanced torque on the output shaft 14. The strokes of the pistons are adjustable by studs 44 screwed into the ends of the cylinders.
